On June 4, 2025, a significant cultural event took place at the Bangkok City Library — the grand opening of the Ukrainian Bookshelf — attended by the Governor of Bangkok, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, members of the Thai public, and media representatives.
This important project is being implemented under the patronage of the First Lady of Ukraine, Mrs. Olena Zelenska, as part of a global initiative to promote Ukrainian culture, literature, and identity abroad.
The bookshelf contains a selection of Ukrainian literary works in Ukrainian, English, and Thai — offering Thai readers a window into the rich history, poetry, and spirit of Ukraine. It was agreed that the Ukrainian Bookshelf will be gradually expanded with new additions.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the first-ever translation of Ukrainian poetry into Thai — “Soul of Land: History of Ukraine in Ten Poems.” This unique book features ten powerful poetic works that reflect key moments in Ukrainian history.
In his remarks, the Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Viktor Semenov, emphasized that literature opens a dialogue with Thai readers — allowing Ukraine to share its proud history, rich culture, and traditions, which is especially relevant during a time when Ukraine continues to resist Russian aggression.
During the ceremony, Governor of Bangkok Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt highlighted that Bangkok is proud to host this initiative and is ready to promote deeper cultural exchange between our countries, paving the way for new bilateral projects.
We sincerely thank the Governor of Bangkok, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and the Bangkok City Library for their fruitful cooperation and constructive support in realizing this important project for both nations.
