Political Relations

1999 – meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Laos in the course of the 54th session of the United Nations General Assembly (New York, USA);

2007 - visit of the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to Laos to participate in the Ministerial Conference of the International Organization of Francophonie (Vientiane, Laos);

2010 – meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Laos in the course of the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly (New York, USA);

2011 – official visit of H.E. Mr. T.Sisoulith, the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos to Ukraine (Kyiv).

Trade and Economic Relations 

According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine in 2023 trade turnover between Ukraine and Laos amounted to 5,2 million USD (export – 8 thousand USD, Import – 5257 thousand USD). The negative balance reached 5,24 million USD.

During the period from January to April 2024 trade turnover between Ukraine and Laos amounted to 249 thousand USD (export – 95 thousand USD, import – 154 thousand USD). The negative trade balance reached 59 thousand USD.

Imports of goods from Laos: mineral fertilizers, coffee and ready-made clothes

Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation 

Practically absent.

Legal basis of the Ukrainian-Lao relations consists of 3 documents.

Ukrainian diaspora

There are no public organizations or associations which unite Ukrainians in Laos. There are about 10 Ukrainian citizens who stay in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
