Political Relations
1999 – meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Laos in the course of the 54th session of the United Nations General Assembly (New York, USA);
2007 - visit of the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to Laos to participate in the Ministerial Conference of the International Organization of Francophonie (Vientiane, Laos);
2010 – meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Laos in the course of the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly (New York, USA);
2011 – official visit of H.E. Mr. T.Sisoulith, the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos to Ukraine (Kyiv).
Trade and Economic Relations
According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine in 2023 trade turnover between Ukraine and Laos amounted to 5,2 million USD (export – 8 thousand USD, Import – 5257 thousand USD). The negative balance reached 5,24 million USD.
According to the results of 2024, the trade turnover between Ukraine and Laos amounted to USD 5.779 million (exports – USD 311 thousand, imports – USD 5.468 million). The negative trade balance stood at USD 5.157 million.
The main items of Ukrainian imports from Laos in 2024 were: mineral fertilizers (95%) worth USD 4.8 million; the rest included ready-made clothing worth USD 180 thousand, footwear worth USD 190 thousand, and telephone sets and radio receivers – USD 50 thousand, among others.
In 2025, trade turnover between Ukraine and the Lao People's Democratic Republic amounted to USD 13.246 million. Ukrainian exports to Laos amounted to USD 68 thousand, while imports totaled USD 13.178 million. The bilateral trade balance remained negative at USD 13.178 million.
In January–April 2026, Ukraine imported goods from the Lao People's Democratic Republic valued at USD 217 thousand. The main import categories were knitwear, sportswear, and footwear, with a combined value of USD 189 thousand. There were no Ukrainian exports to Laos during the reporting period.

Ukrainian diaspora
There are no public organizations or associations which unite Ukrainians in Laos. There are about 10 Ukrainian citizens who stay in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
