Recognition of Ukraine: January 19, 1999.
Diplomatic relations were established on 19 January 1999.
Diplomatic missions: Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (with Banhkok, The Kingdom of Thailand, ); Myanmar Embassy in Ukraine (with Moscow, Russian Federation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary - U Tin Yu).
September 22, 1999 - meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine B.Tarasyuk with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar Aung It In in the framework of the 54th session of the UN General Assembly.
On January 11-12, 2017 the first ever in the history of bilateral relations official visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has taken place.
During the visit Minister Klimkin met with the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E. Mr. Htin Kyaw, State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E. Mrs. Aung San Suu Kyi and Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
The Рarties exрressed mutual interest in strengthening of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Myanmar; discussed perspectives of deepening of cooperation in the framework of international organizations; exchanged views on recent developments in global and regional contexts.
They agreed to sign of the Memorandum of understanding on the Establishment of Bilateral Consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs as well as to organize the first round of political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers in the near future.
The Рarties have also discussed ways of enhancing the legal base of bilateral relations in trade and economic spheres in particular, development of relevant bilateral agreements, namely - on trade and economic cooperation, on promotion and protection of investments and on avoiding of double taxation.
Рavlo Klimkin informed Myanmar leadership on consequences of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and recent developments of the security situation in our country. In turn, the Myanmar Side has presented its views regarding the prospects of the ongoing national reconciliation process in Myanmar as well as on the recent escalation of tensions in the eastern state of Rakhine.
After the negotiations Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine gave interviews to Myanmar’s leading mass media.
Рrior to the visit - on January 11, 2017 - Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Thailand Andrii Beshta and Рermanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E. Mr. Kyaw Zeya took part in the opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Myanmar with the office in the city of Yangon.
In December 2017, Ambassador of Ukraine Andrii Beshta presented credentials to the President of Myanmar.
