09 April 2025 07:42

In early April, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Thailand presented the first-ever collection of Ukrainian poetry translated into Thai: “Soul of Land: History of Ukraine in Ten Poems.” The official book launch took place during the 53rd National Book Fair and the 23rd Bangkok International Book Fair.

“Soul of Land: History of Ukraine in Ten Poems” is structured as a thematic anthology. The collection brings together poetry by both classic and contemporary Ukrainian authors — including works by Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Ivan Franko, Vasyl Stus, Lina Kostenko, and Serhiy Zhadan. The Thai translations, carried out by Theerapat Charoensuk, preserve the rhythm, style, and meaning of the original texts, while commentaries by Ukrainian, Thai, and international experts help to uncover the historical and cultural context of the poems. The publication is illustrated by Ukrainian artist Oleksii Chebykin.

The project aims to promote Ukrainian culture abroad and deepen intercultural dialogue between Ukraine and Thailand. It serves as an example of a new generation of cultural diplomacy, where literature, history, and art become essential tools for fostering mutual understanding between nations.
