On May 2, 2014, a Ukraine’s Unity march took place in Odessa. During the march its participants got attacked by armed pro-Russian separatists.
As a result of the attack 3 marchers got killed (6 - according to other sources) because of automatic weapons.
After that the Ukraine’s Unity marchers got the pro-Russian separatists move to “Kulykove Pole” square, a location of the tent camp of the latter.
At that, pro-Russian separatists took by force the Odessa Trade Union building, located next to “Kulykove Pole” square, got to the upper floors of the building and began shooting automatic weapons and throwing Molotov cocktails at Ukraine’s Unity marchers.
The use of Molotov cocktails set on fire the Odessa Trade Union building. As a result of the fire, over 30 people being inside the building got killed mainly because of carbonyl. The wounded on both sides and injured law enforcement personnel were admitted to Odessa hospitals for medical care.
A police unit of Odessa Ministry of Interior Directorate currently pursues investigation into this case.
It is important to note that statements by Russian officials and media on the situation in Odessa absolutely distort the truth and represent yet another element of cynical Kremlin propaganda aimed at destabilization of the situation in Ukraine by all available means.
